Today we’re launching something big – get in on the ground floor

Dear friends of CHEJ,

Today, CHEJ is launching an ambitious new plan to investigate and expose children’s school supplies that contain harmful chemicals linked to asthma, autism, and birth defects.  We’d like to invite you to be one of the first people to get involved in this brand new project.

Help us safeguard our children from toxic chemicals in lunchboxes, backpacks and other school supplies.

Did you know that children’s school supplies can contain phthalates, chemicals that are so toxic they are banned in children’s toys? Used to soften vinyl plastic products, these chemicals can still be found in a variety of children’s products, such as lunchboxes, backpacks and raincoats

This summer, before our kids go back to school, CHEJ would like to test popular school supplies for these harmful chemicals and publish the results just in time for your children to go back to school. To do this, we need your help.

This summer we would like  to commission an independent scientific laboratory to test back-to-school products such as lunchboxes, backpacks and raincoats to determine if they contain phthalates, lead, cadmium and other toxic chemicals.  We need your help to raise at least $4,727.70 to test at least ten children’s products that we believe may contain harmful chemicals. The more money we raise, the more products we can test!  Today we’re launching a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to do just that.

Without this funding, we won’t be able to do this testing.

We wouldn’t ask for your help if this wasn’t such an important issue.  Phthalates are linked to serious health problems such as asthma that are on the rise in our children.  Big corporations like Exxon Mobil produce these harmful chemicals, which end up in our children’s school supplies!  School is just around the corner so we need to move fast.

Plus, we’ve pulled together all sorts of perks, from a rare autographed copy of my out-of-print book, Love Canal: My Story, to an exclusive lunch-date with me!

Help us expose this hidden toxic hazard, and empower parents to find safer products for their children.

Thanks for your support.

Yours for a healthy future,

Lois Marie Gibbs, Founder and Executive Director
Center for Health, Environment & Justice (CHEJ)

PS — Only with your help can we test more products and learn which ones contain unhealthy chemicals. With your contribution, we can keep our kids safe.
