Disney World recently stated in a letter to CHEJ that they have reduced their cleaning product inventory by 62%, but isn’t sharing with guests what products and hazardous cleaning chemicals they have eliminated. If they are trying to protect the health and safety of guests and employees, why are they being so secretive?

Help us find out just what hazardous products and chemicals Disney World eliminated by taking your best shot at this little guessing game.

What Product or Group of Chemicals Did Disney World Eliminate?

1) Phthalates-
Air fresheners contain phthalates, which are a group of chemicals used to dissolve and carry fragrances, soften plastics and also as sealants and adhesives. A study recently found that phthalates can be passed between a moth and her unborn children and effect the reproductive development of her daughter. Air fresheners themselves are not an essential cleaning product. In fact, since air fresheners do not clean, sanitize, or disinfect it is a product that unnecessarily exposes guests and employees to toxic chemicals.

2) Floor Maintenance Cleaner (Easy Glow Daily Floor Maintainer)-
This cleaner contains glycol ethers (diethylene glycol methyl ether, ethylene glycol) that irritate the eyes and skin; cause stomach distress, nausea, and vomiting if swallowed; continued use may cause reproductive effects including physical birth defects, and damage the nervous system, liver, kidneys, lungs, and blood.

3) Liquid Quaternary Detergent Disinfectant-
This product contains Quaternary ammonium chlorides that are known neurological disruptor as well as aquatic pollutant.

4) Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s)-
VOC’s are organic chemicals that have a high vapor pressure and easily form vapors at normal temperature and pressure. Examples include aerosol spray can propellants, petroleum distillates and solvents. VOCs are a significant source of indoor air pollution.

5) Alkyl phenol Ethoxylates (APEs)-
APE’s are compounds often found in detergents, are suspected endocrine disruptors, which means they mimic natural hormones. There is a strong link between solvents, which are used in a variety of cleaning products, and brain and nervous system effects.

Answer: Call Disney World today to find out: 407-939-6244

Disney World is refusing to make the products and cleaning chemicals used in all parks and resorts available for guests or potential guests. Transparency is important not just for the sake of showing respect to those that spend their family savings at Disney, but also to provide quality information so that guests and potential guests are able to make more informed decisions about protecting their health and safety. Product and chemical disclosure is extremely important if Disney World doesn’t want its Healthy Cleaning Policy to be known as another piece of corporate greenwashing.
